Plays Through
Light Hairlines, Plays Through
Soulful Spider’s first album under his own name. Warm, widescreen instrumental hip-hop in the vein of RJD2 and AIM: soulful loops, dusty breaks, vocal samples and live instruments.
The player appears here the moment the album is live.
How a record seller
would describe it
“Light hairlines, plays through” is secondhand-record language: faint surface marks that won’t stop the needle. A record that has been loved and played, and still sounds right.
The album works the same way. Beats and fragments pulled from a vast archive, loops with a little dust still on them, played through start to finish.
Built from
the archive
Soulful loops, dusty breaks, vocal samples and live instruments. It started with a Fostex four-track and his dad’s CD collection, and twenty years of production for other people have fed into it. This is the version with nobody else’s name on the front.
