As The Record Revolves

From the label: The debut release from Infinite Potential. Six tracks of the finest beats and pieces. Enter Amber MC, with a flow you never heard befo’, and BLAM! Infinite Potential was born.

  • A1Let The Music Take Control
  • A2Buh-Zeen (feat. Amber MC)
  • A3Can You Dig That?
  • B1Lyrical Highgrade (feat. Amber MC)
  • B2I Excel (feat. Amber MC)
  • B3Quiet Nights

Written, produced and arranged by Kojak & The Soulful Spider. Lyrics on A2, B1 and B2 by Amber MC. All cuts by Kojak.

Hip-hop keeps on gaining speed in the UK, and, as it does, the quality grows with it… For first timers, this is a tight EP heavily recalling the old school vibe of Black Sheep but with progressing contemporary technique. Their choice of samples reflects this, with the first on the album from the rap culture satire CB4, and later Grand Mixer D.ST’s “fresh” makes a cameo… Their album is sure to be an ass shaking party staple. UK hip-hop is here, spread the word.

Open Up Your Mind

From the label: After creating a diverse collection of fans, from Mark Rae to DJ Yoda to Ben Watt to DJ Food, the boys have been remixing, touring and locking themselves away to create the next instalment, with ill vocab from one of the UK’s most innovative MCs, Dizraeli, and IP’s in-house wordsmith Amber MC.

From the Latin beats of “La Entrada” to the driving beats and rhymes of Amber and Dizraeli’s “Vocal Chords”, the slick, blue ode to pleasure from Dizraeli on “Close Your Eyes” and the cinematic title track. Already picking up plays and heat on 1Xtra.

  • A1La Entrada
  • A2Vocal Chords (feat. Amber MC and Dizraeli)
  • B1Close Your Eyes (feat. Dizraeli)
  • B2Open Up Your Mind

Kojak & The Soulful Spider’s portfolio lets Amber MC and Dizraeli explain how not to limit the larynx on the Common-chorused basics of ‘Vocal Chords’, and Dizraeli expose himself as the cat who’s got the cream over the tiptoeing ‘Close Your Eyes’. The subdued shindig ‘La Entrada’ shows off some Latin-themed footwork and the title track gets deeper in thought.

Just off to America – this is in the box!

Mark Rae, Grand Central

Pure class. This is the best hip hop 12” I’ve had this year.

Superstyle Deluxe

Excellent 12”, best beats I’ve had in a while. Everyone’s a winner.

Rik Mono Split

Great EP. It has something for each part of the night. Thank goodness hip hop like this is still being made.

Andy Smith, Portishead

Fantastic debut. Tight beats and even tighter cuts. Want to hear more.

Boca 45, Grand Central

Amazing cuts and tight beats. Very good.

Paul Morcheeba

Heavy tracks from fresh talent. What we like to see.

Task Force, London

Favourite track is Quiet Nights. Nice dreamy production.

Open Up Your Mind June 2005

Radio play from Luke Williams on Fire 107.6 and Excalibur on 1Xtra, with club charts from Newcastle to Edinburgh. DJ Magazine, I:DJ and Hip Hop Connection all covered the release.

Vocal Chords is the standout track, although the instrumental La Entrada is good enough for an Air album. If you don’t hear it in the background on a holiday or design programme I’ll eat my hat!

Hip Hop Connection, 2005

Carving themselves a reasonably distinctive niche. And it’s kinda hard to dis any duo revelling in the pseudonyms Kojak and The Soulful Spider.

Hip Hop Connection, 2005

These guys have got serious talent. A blinding follow up to their first EP, which has not left my box since I got it. This will get caned.

Matt Storm, Squeeze 18 and Soul Cellar

Loving Entrada. Always a sucker for a jazzy guitar groove. Vocal Chords is another very strong tune. All in all a great little EP.

Dr Rubberfunk, 6 Music

More quality beats from IP! In my eyes these guys can do nothing wrong. Something here for every occasion!

Pete Jordan, Nottingham

Close Your Eyes is the real gem track on this EP. IP tracks are getting a great response whenever I drop them. More please.

Chris Gorsuch, Thekla Bristol

Damn, that’s a nice EP. IP’s production on the last EP was excellent and it sounds just as good on this one. However I think Amber has really stepped up.

Eddie Rishue, Steady Diggin Workshop

Big fan of this crew. The standout track for me is Vocal Chords, going down well early doors on all floors.

“Bullseye” is a track by UK hip-hop and dancehall/bashment artist Jimmy Screech, from the 2010 double A-side vinyl Dollyanna / Bullseye and his 2011 album The Remedy. Produced by Infinite Potential, it pairs traditional reggae and bashment-style skanks with glitchy, updated techno and dubstep beats.
